The Roman Road up to The Gap in the Brecon Beacons
A pleasant afternoon stroll up to the gap to admire the Red Kites, Roman engineering and the view from the top.
Far more common then they ever used to be, the Red Kites are everywhere. It was really noticeable to me, having been away for thirty years. Raptors have recovered from DDT at last. Buzzards, Kestrels, Kites are now common, and I even saw a hobby, being chased by swallows.

Nearing the top of Y Pig we hear a helicopter and a rescue 'copter peeps shyly over the top, just practicing.
Looking down at the valley below, its glacial origins are apparent from its U shape. The present creek has chewed its way into the periglacial deposits that resulted from freeze thaw. A Carrion Beetle, one of many on the track, about a centimetre long.
